A Grand ‘Destiny 2’ Season 18 And Lightfall Theory To Make Sense Of The Mystery

Destiny 2 has moved into a phase where they don’t want to tell us essentially anything about upcoming content until launch day, which I’d consider to be a lackluster marketing ploy, but hey, Bungie can do whatever it wants.

Over the past week, we’ve been told that we won’t hear anything significant about Season 18 until its launch day, August 23, where there will be a big Destiny showcase that also focuses on Lightfall, next year’s expansion. We were also told that we wouldn’t hear which Destiny 1 raid would return until that day, even though it will release just three days later. It seems more and more likely that we won’t know the details of Arc 3.0 until it’s available in-game, which is what happened with Solar 3.0.

Why? Why is this a mystery? As I said in a video I made yesterday, I think this is not the same category of silence as Bungie taking a step back on social media due to recent threats, as it is more of a marketing decision. And one idea is that all of these things are linked in a way where if you reveal one, you would in effect reveal all of them, so they all group together and debut at once.

So you want a grand theory? Here is a great theory. I’m not saying that necessarily believe this theory, but it is an explanation. There are many pieces here:

1. Destiny players have been requesting a SIVA Season for many, many years, having enjoyed the story in Rise of Iron as much as Warmind was a well-received early D2 DLC.

2. Over the years, I’ve seen Bungie specifically say they’ve received feedback about the community’s desire to return to SIVA, though so far, that’s only manifested in some exotic baubles and the return of Outbreak Prime.

3. While Rasputin was an important part of the story in the seasons before Beyond Light, he was “shut down” when the Darkness appeared. We know that Ana Bray took him from Mars in an Engram, and is currently building him a special exobody to try to restore him in some way. More information suggests that he may return under the name “Archangel”.

4. The Witch Queen made fun of a place called the Nefele Stronghold, a secret human outpost that Rasputin kept hidden from everyone.

So SIVA and Rasputin are the great unifying force for everything that comes next:

  • The theory would be that season 18 marks the return of Rasputin and the reintroduction of SIVA as a concept in some way. The season could be about restoring his body as more threats from the Dark loom and giving some of his power back. We know he played a part in helping stop the Collapse before, and now with a second Collapse looming, we may need him to help us do it again.
  • Therefore, the Season 18 raid would be Wrath of the Machine, the Rise of Iron raid based on SIVA. It’s the less obvious choice than King’s Fall, so it would be a surprise. Just like the Vault of Glass arrived during a Vex season, Wrath could arrive during a SIVA season. neither it is entirely impossible that it could be integrated into the story in any way, even if Vault of Glass wasn’t.
  • Enter Lightfall, an expansion that everyone believes will be about the Traveler being attacked in some direct way, which would again require one of the greatest defenders in the land, Rasputin, to step up and help. All the world what’s more expect this expansion to introduce a fifth subclass, like The Witch Queen didn’t, and now all 3.0 subclasses will be finished. While the common theory has been the poison/disintegration subclass, we could also see the realization of another old theory, some sort of SIVA-based class where, I don’t know, SIVA mixes with dark energy to become a power that the Guardians can control. . We get a list of powers based on SIVA and SIVA becomes a new damage type. Instead of filling the “green” poison slot, we get the debut of the “red” element, which seems to be the other likely color theme if the ultimate goal is for Destiny to have three light and three dark subclasses and damage types when all it is said and done.

I guess I could even weave Arc 3.0 in there as it could be part of the story in Season 18 given that Rasputin is a machine and Arc is electricity infused by light, but since Solar 3.0 didn’t have a story component, who knows. .

Again, this could all be a huge hit and miss, so I’m not really putting eggs in this basket. I’m just saying I might explain why any is being teased and all is being saved for a specific reveal on August 23. Maybe it’s all unlinked, I don’t know, but it would make more sense if the answer was something like this. We’ll see.
